I spent most of this long holiday weekend in bed, resting and recuperating from whatever illness finally got me down. I had nursed 3 kids back to health multiple times each over the past several months, and finally, when Thursday came around and the promise of a long weekend loomed ahead... I crashed. Flu symptoms, plus an awful migraine that began on Thursday and is still lingering slightly. So by Saturday morning, I was desperate for a pick-me-up. While Lila was in ballet class, Parker and Charlotte and I slipped out and picked up a few bunches of peonies. And oh, how they blessed my heart.
Sometimes it takes intentional rest to be inspired and uncover your next gift.
So if you've read my blog in the past week or so, you'll already know who Cora is. She is the 7-month-old daughter of my sweet Lila's first grade Spanish teacher, Señor Glickley. Baby Cora has leukemia, my friends. Something no child should have to face, and no parent either.
It's really easy to feel helpless when you learn about things like this... but WE ARE NOT. There are always ways to help. There are always good gifts to be given with intention and generosity.
When I photographed this series of lush, gorgeous peonies, I thought of baby Cora. And I knew.
Named by Lila (in honor of Cora's parents both being Spanish teachers), La Flor de Cora is a collection of four peony photographs, different than the ones above, available in four sizes (custom sizes also available upon request). 100% of all proceeds will go directly to Cora's family to help with whatever needs they have during this difficult time.
And if you'd like to hear Lila pronounce this series, you're going to love this... PRESS PLAY. Turn up your speakers! Her little voice is precious.
These graceful pieces would look amazing in a bedroom... either framed as a series of four 10x10s, or just one large print. Maybe a 30x40 over a bed. They'd look amazing in a powder room, down a hallway, or in a little girl's room. I'm printing an enormous one in black and white for our living area. A cheerful peony print also might be a beautiful gift for a friend who is having a hard time. Or for your grandma who always grows them in her backyard. Or for your Mom who used to. Or for your sister who lives in Florida and can't grow them, so she has to live vicariously through these photos for the rest of the year until she can buy cut peonies again. Oh wait. Maybe that's just me. :)
So be generous today, give to an amazing cause, make a difference in a baby girl's life (and her family's as well), and get some beautiful artwork at the same time. What could be better than that on this fine Tuesday morning?
Much love to you, my sweet friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support!! #WeHeartCora
